Summer 2015 Garden

Back last spring (around mid-April) my roommate and I decided to start a garden on the side of our house. We knew Sacramento summers are hot and rain is rare so placement was chosen because the space only had morning to early afternoon direct sunlight exposure. Our landlord had previously used this space to stack old concrete which made it extra difficult to not only clear any foliage that was growing but tilling and prepping the space. Multiple weekend afternoons were spent digging and clearing the space before we rented a heavy duty rototiller to break apart the hardpan and till in two yards of compost that we bought at the local rock yard. The following is a progression of the garden's growth from amending the soil to harvesting our produce. I have included the few pests and diseases encountered through the growing season.
